| Dream Walk | 30th June 2006 | ![]() The "Dream Walk" was really successful on Friday 30th June. The sponsored ten mile walk was to commemorate the third anniversary of Thomas Ball's passing and to raise money for other children suffering from cancer. Fifty seven people turned out at midnight on the fine summer evening to do the walk. It was hard going because most of the people who took part had not done any training and many were not used to walking such a distance. We also had several children who managed to complete the walk. The event was emotional with many people walking to remember lost loved ones and others who were walking in support of people who are fighting a serious illness.
The "Dream Walk" was truly a spectacular event with walkers dressed in reflective yellow tabards and armed with torches. The bright procession of people could be seen for miles in the darkness, it was like a string of Christmas lights. Although at midnight there are not too many people about, some walkers were fortunate enough to receive extra donations from the public who were so impressed by their efforts and the cause. So far the charity has collected £2,000 from the event that will be used for local children to enjoy a holiday with their families in Disney Land Resort Paris this Christmas. The trustees are hoping for the total to raise considerably once the walkers have collected in their sponsor money. The much needed holiday will cost the charity around £12,000 more details can be found by visiting our Disney appeal.
